depending on what you want to achieve you could go the "hard" way : install system wide hooks for the relevant GDI function calls and just filter based on the hdc what drawing commands are relevant... this way you get the text displayed without any conversion from pixel to text ( which btw would effectively mean you implement an OCR ! )...
