I had a look into USB ports several months ago, and it appeared to be that you had to purchase a component or purchase a book and work on one yourself. In the end we went with the cheaper (and easier) option of using a serial port (data requirements weren't particularly high). I suggest purchasing a component to do it for you - there is a dearth of solid information out there, though that could of changed and I could of been searching for the wrong information. G.
