Thanks Remy for the quick reply.
I will rewrite the code to use raw char*.
However I don't understand why using std::ifstream
inside the DLL always gets me an AV
(read of address 00000000). Any idea?

I reduced my test code to this.
(Should I better post this to the C++ group??)

//DLL

#include <fstream>
using std::ifstream;

#pragma argsused
int WINAPI DllEntryPoint(HINSTANCE hinst,
unsigned long reason, void* lpReserved)
{
   return 1;
}

extern "C" __declspec(dllexport)
void __stdcall TestFunc(const char* fileName)
{
   ifstream in(fileName);
   char c;
   in >> c;
}

//Test App with Button1

void __fastcall TForm1::Button1Click(TObject *Sender)
{
   HMODULE hMod = LoadLibrary("Test.dll");

   if(hMod)
   {
      typedef void (*PTestFunc)(const char* fileName);
      PTestFunc TestFunc = (PTestFunc)GetProcAddress(hMod, "TestFunc");

      if(TestFunc != NULL)
         TestFunc("TestFile.txt");
      FreeLibrary(hMod);
   }
}
