Hi,
im'working on a application that mirrors newly created files between
different computers in a Local Area Network (mixed win2000pro and
win98). I'm periodically executing a FindFirstFile/FindNextFile- search
to retrieve the content of a remote directory (subdirectory of a
network share) using its unc path and then copy the found files. To
debug and optimize my code I think I need a better understanding on
what's going on when I do this kind of search in a LAN.

Questions :

Do FindFirstFile/FindNextFile search over a client-side image of the
directory or is there some kind of remote-call involved which scans the
original file system locally and delivers the result ?

If there is any client-side cashing of directory contents, when and how
does synchronisation occur ? How can i make sure that i find all new
files in the remote directory ?

Are there any differences in what's happening on win98 and win2000
systems ?
