Log
        TFileStream *OldFile = new TFileStream(Folder, fmOpenRead);

Since his Log isn't fine-grained, could he be hanging in
TStAnsiTextStream?

Also, do fopen and fprintf guarantee an automatic file flush with
every write?  I've gone round a few times with a log that stopped a
few messages before the last actual good message.....So, I don't rely
on logs to tell me _where_ an app hangs, just the last-known data it
was working on.

Hmmm.. a Service, right?
Might it be a re-entrancy problem?
For instance, "ptr" is global and therefore non-reentrant.
