For files specifically, you can have the form call the DragAcceptFiles()
function during startup and then intercept the WM_DROPFILES message in the
form's WndProc() method.

For anything else, though, you need to work with the OS's COM interfaces
instead.  Specifically, you need to derive your own class from the
IDropTarget interface, and then register it at application startup via the
RegisterDragDrop() function.  When an item is dropped, your
IDropTarget::Drop() method will be called, which you then need to extract
the desired data from the provided IDataObject interface.
