Ok, an alternative description of what is going on.

You have elected to not connect your computer to the Internet.  Instead you
have connected it to a router.  Therefore you cannot see read the value of
the number representing the computer's Internet address because it does not
have one - it is not connected to the Internet.  What you can read is your
address on the local network established by the router.

If you want to read the address of your computer on the Internet from what
is on your machine then disconnect the router and plug the machine into the
cable modem or into whatever serves as the Internet connection.

To find out what the address of the router on the Internet you have but two
choices.  Either get it from the router or get it from a cooperating site on
the Internet.
