We have recently introduced a network volume which appears to the client as containing two directories in the root when in fact each of these directories is a separate volume. In effect this is similar to the UNIX mount point system, Windows calls this mounting a partition onto an empty NTFS folder. IOW: Client side "H:\Vol1\" is actually server side "D:\". We need to be able to determine the free space on each of these volumes from the client side. The normal Diskfree function call is no use because of course the client sees the volumes as directories and returns the free space of the host volume - ie;not even the combined free space of the mounted volumes. This renders the free space reported completely meaningless. Can anyone suggest how the client can either: * Determine the free space for a directory or * Work out what the volume is called on the server and ask the server what the free space is. The only solution I've come up with for the moment is to run a utility on the server that at regular intervals (every ten minutes perhaps) writes a file to the root of each volume indicating the free space. Its a Windows 2003 server. -- Andrue Cope [Bicester UK]
