As a matter of fact, you can not open your *own* exe, but you can open any other one. - Include in your exe a global array large enough for your data & initialize the first bytes with a unique string. - Write a second program as a short utility, which opens the 'real' exe as a bin file and searches that particular string. You know the array size: that's the area you can overwrite without problems. My utility had also a version related ID and with a proper comand line argument would just display the adress. Next step was to set the found adress into the utility's source and recompile in order to allow also multiple modifications of the same exe, i.e. those not having the original search string any more.
