Doubtful, especially since MSDN also says the following:

    "For best drawing performance by the layered window and any underlying
windows, the layered window should be as small as possible."

And also:

    "Using a layered window can significantly improve performance and visual
effects for a window that has a complex shape, animates its shape, or wishes
to use alpha blending effects."

Those qualifications are not very likely to be applied to entire GUI
applications (unless you were doing skinning or special effects).
UpdateLayeredWindow() is best used for displaying individual animated
controls, windows with complex shapes, or windows with special effects.
