Accelerator problem

I'm converting an OWL application to a WinAPI-only application. That OWL
app has an accelerator table with (I guess) some unusual accelerator
shortcuts: It uses the shift key and a char key as a shortcut, for
instance 'E' (Shift + 'e'). Now, when I try to use these
shift-plus-char-shortcuts in the new WinAPI app, they don't work. Though
it would be possible to handle them in WM_CHAR, it would mean to
re-write quite a lot of code.
Any way to get the OWL behaviour into my WinAPI app?

Thanks in advance,
Martin
