Sockets & Port 80 versus Other Ports

Hello to all,
I have followed the examples in the Sam's Press book, 'C++ Builder 5
Developer's Guide', to get both a server socket and a client socket to work
with each other. I even managed to get a webbrowser to connect to a server
socket when I used a redirect from a website to the port of the server
socket. However I could not get a client socket to listen to the activity on
Port 80.
How can I get my client socket to let me know what is being sent on Port
80, the same as I can read all the network traffic to the Port of the server
socket that I created? Shouldn't the same code work regardless of the Port
number, when the socket is set to a given port number (80 in this case)
either at design time or at runtime?
TIA,
Ralph in Boise
