Running a gui app from a command box, I need to display stdout in the cmd
box (in case the app fails to start, then the status messages remain visible
in the cmd box).

I know stdout is getting directed back to the cmd environment because I can
enter APP >TEST and stdout will go to a file named TEST.  I can also use APP
| MORE which has the desired effect except that things get a bit tricky if
the cursor is toward the bottom of the screen and MORE is waiting for ENTER
to be pressed.  I have tried APP >CON which does nothing, and APP >stdout
which again sends to a new file named stdout.

Running a console from within the app using AllocConsole() is no good
because the console is destroyed when the app terminates.

Trawled quite a bit for an answer, but without success.
