I'm trying to enable applications to search system wide for data on startup in the event that the user has moved the data from its last known location. This includes mapped network drives. All machines on the (small) network run Windows 2000 pro. The search involves enumerating the contents of the desktop and all locations stored beneath it. I can search correctly starting from a known path such as C:\Path using the desktop IShellFolder returned from SHGetDesktopFolder, parsing the path, binding the pidl that ParseDisplayName finds and enumerating the resultant IShellFolder. I eventually learnt how to enumerate the desktop folders and files without listing other shell objects by getting the IShellFolder for the desktop directory using SHGetSpecialFolderLocation with CSIDL_DESKTOPDIRECTORY. I'm stuck with getting the appropriate pidls and their IShellFolder bindings for the roots of the local and mapped drives. Any advice and pointers on how to do this will be, as always, greatly appreciated.
