I think you missed the point that Ed was trying to point out to you.  If you
study the utility close enough, you will discover *how* it erases individual
files, which is exactly what you are asking for.  For example, if you look
at the source code for the Eraser, the wipe.cpp file contains a wipeFile()
function that essentially does what I suggested earlier - open the file,
write garbage data to the file from beginning to end, then close the file
prior to then deleting the file.
