One simple way to work around the problem with RecreateWnd being called on your form, and hence alienating the tray icon, is to use AllocateHwnd. Many of the tray icon controls use this to create a hidden window that can act as the owner for the tray icon, and to receive the notification messages. Avoiding RecreateWnd and properties that trigger it might be even easier. H^2
