Hello out there,
thanks to all of you who tried to help me with my previous question.
Why would I want to have a console app and then hide it? Well, let me
explain.
- I have written a DLL to provide some funtionality. It sits
completely in the backfround, not using any GUI nor stdin, stdout or
stderr.
- When this DLL's functions are called from a console app, everything
is fine.
- When called from a GUI app, everything is fine.
- BUT one customer reports that when called from an OLE-server he
receives an error message like 'cannot find stderr'.

1) Yes, this message comes from my DLL - I found the text in one of
the libs my DLL uses.
2) Why? No idea, like stated above, normally it just works - on my
machine it even works when called from the customer's OLE-server :(

Looking at the OLE-server's sources I see that it is created as a
normal GUI app with an immediate call to Application.Hide to make it
invisible. One idea is now to mimic this behaviour:
- Create the server as a console app -> this would give me stderr, so
we would avoid said error message (and might even learn something from
whatever message is wanting to be sent) but
- hide the console (possibly in a second step) to have the same
behaviour as we have now.

Whether this will be the solution, I don't know yet - having a
customer report a problem I cannot reproduce (even on the same OS) is
not the easiest of situations.
I'd be greatful for any comments, ideas or suggestions.
