I already mentioned how to do it with the registry and the possible problems of that method. An old machine is one that is likely to have had generations of programs loaded and removed. Not all uninstalls properly clean up the registry. If you want to speed things up then check the registry first and if successful then search for excel.exe. You don't need to load the file, just search for it. If you're into a "writer's block" on the search for that file, email me at ed@mulroy.org and I'll send you a function to do it. .
