You could ignore the wheel while you are zooming:
bool calculating=false;
messageproc(....)
{
......
case WM_WHEEL: (or whatever it is)
if( ! calculating )
{ startThread( zoom );
}
return whatever;
.......
}
zoom()
{ /* or put the test here if( !calculating ) */
calculating = true;
do_the_zoom();
calculating = false;
}
