TerminateProcess() is a brute-force termination. It does not allow the terminated process to perform necessary cleanups. In particular, any DLLs that are loaded are not freed correctly. That could include the DirectX DLLs. Microsoft specifically warns in its Win32 API documentation that TerminateProcess() is a brute-force approach to killing a process and should only be used under extreme circumstances only.
