There are ways, and then there are ways to calc a sqrt. a) First approx. 1) load it into floating point and do fsqrt on it. 2) find the most significant 32bits and do a sqrt on that. b) Modify the resultant int_64 (+-) until y squared > x and y-1 squared < x (or equal if a miracle happens). You might want to impliment the other arithmetic operators and the comparators as well. Or, find a sqrt algorythm in a book somewhere Or find a library that does what you want (BigInt was suggested).
