My application creates files of a custom format (list of shapes, etc.) that
it renders on-screen as an image.   Think of AutoCAD files being displayed
as a drawing.

I want to have Windows Explorer display the file's image in the preview when
a user selects a file.   Since the file is not a BMP, GIF or JPG, Windows
doesn't know how to render it.   Is there some way to hook my rendering
engine into Windows so my files can be previewed?

As a possibly related question, how can I customize the File Open dialog to
get a similar preview?   If I have to build a custom open dialog, how do I
get it to look/feel like the built-in Windows dialogs?
