I've got a feeling the only way of doing what you require is by writing a 
low level device driver - I've looked myself and it's a minefield!  

We use Alfa File Protector for various things.  It might be able to help 
you?  http://www.alfasp.com/   If not, you could try asking the developer 
for advice - I've found him to be very helpful in the past.

Not sure if that helps at all.
