There are many ways to communicate between processes - ActiveX/COM, RPC,
named pipes, TCP/IP sockets, shared memory, etc.

Services aren't usually supposed to display UI elements to begin with, other
then call MessageBox() with the MB_SERVICE_NOTIFICATION flag. That is
because services do not normally run in the context of the user's visible
desktop at all. Even if the service did display a UI dialog, it would be
displayed within a non-visible desktop, and thus the user would never be
able to ever see it let alone be able to dismiss it properly. Although it
is technically possible from an API level to set up a service to display UI
elements visually, it is quite a bit of extra coding and work to make it
work correctly. Any UI elements that a service needs to display are usually
best accomplished by simply displaying them from a separate non-service
application on the service's behalf.
