About brute-force terminations you evidently mean TerminateProcess.

I thinked about using CreateRemoteThread and ExitProcess instead 
TerminateProcess for "clear" termination (for Win NT/2000/XP). 
It seems to be possible.
Just some days before I find article in Windows Developers Journal by Andrew Tucker "A Safer Alternative to 
TerminateProcess()" where he used these possibility.
The article is accessible in online - www.wdj.com, 
Article Archives, 07.1999. 
I am not sure that it always work but it looks interesting.
