WMI (Windows Management Instrumentaion) is really very power 
usefull facility.
1) It was builded on World standard (WBEM). 
2) It has various interfaces for working with C++, 
script languages, C#, Java.
3) It describes hardware and software infrastructure in the 
terms of classes and interfaces - Common Information Model (CIM).
4) It is open. Programmers can create your own WMI providers.
5) You can find articles in MSDN(MSJ) Journal site about 
using WMI.
6) Microsoft begins implement WMI from Win2000, continues 
for nowaday systems and supports it for Win95/98/NT4.
