The desktop is actually just a listview, so if you find its handle
you can show and hide it (or enable/disable it or do other
nasty things).

DesktopListView = FindWindowEx(FindWindow("Progman", null), HWND(0),
"ShellDll_DefView", null);
// Hide icons
ShowWindow(DesktopListView, SW_HIDE);
// Show icons
ShowWindow(DesktopListView, SW_SHOW);
