Remy's solution is more appropriate.  The test to see whether the user has
clicked on the checkbox is what I needed.  I was using the wrong test
condition.  The items in the list get their check box state information from
another source.  So, I needed to prevent inappropriate checking and
unchecking in the list because the check box state is changed elsewhere in
the applicaiton.
