Gary: I'm not exactly sure where you pasted my code into Poppad1, so I am uncertain how you got it to work. I compiled Popad1, but it has no menus like my application, so I would have to change it quite a bit to get it to work with my code. Anyway - if I change my code so that when I originally create my child window edit control as visible, then it works fine. This is the same way that poppad1 does it. But, the way I would like it to work is for the edit control to be invisible, then on command from a menu item it will be filled with data read from a file. But, for some reason when I use ShowWindow, the control apparently doesn't assume focus, activate or whatever it takes to show the text, until I click the scrollbar or the menu bar. As for the strange manipulations with the text buffers - I did that to try and emulate Petzolds code as much as possible, while at the same time cutting out his unicode checking code in Poppad3. So, yes it is a mess and I intend to fix it later. Thanks, Bill
