The answer depends on the compiler you're using, and to a small
extent, on the version of the OS your user has.  Most of us here have
BCB, so we can use TEdit, TRichEdit, and the HTML edit that come with
BCB.  They're all based on (in fact, wrappers for) Microsoft controls
that are either included in Windows (Edit, RichEdit), or given away by
Microsoft.  Your issue, I think, is writing a pure API program to use
them.  Perhaps someone in borland.public.cpp.borlandcpp can help you.
I bought BCB so I wouldn't have to answer those questions for myself,
so I'm not qualified to answer you-sorry!
