HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes DOES INDEED point to the application path, in two steps: The default value for .pdf for instance is "AcroExch.Document". Then look up the default value for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AcroExch.Document\shell\open\command This is the path to Acrobat Reader. -- Sam Mildener
