We too once had a device that plugged into the printer port with a pass-through for the printer (it was the Covox Speech Thing - a speech synthisizer in the MSDOS environment) and we also had printing problems. In the end it was determined that the problem was degridation of the signal due to the pass-through combined with long printer cables. As the output to a parallel printer travels down the cable, the signal degrades (which I presume is caused by bleeding and loss of signal strength). Consequently, standard parallel cables are manufactured to the presumed maximum length for reliable operation. The problem was solved by having a cabling company makes us some short printer cables. Obviousely one can't expect users to replace their printer cables so what's the solution when using a dongle? Well, I would imagine that the quality of construction would impact the signal so choose a vendor well. The only other thing that comes to mind is if there are serial dongles available (of which I have no clue). HTH ~ JD
