You can't easily equate physical sector number to cylinder/head/sector on modern drives. Just because a given PSN mathematically equates to a given C:H:S doesn't mean that that's actually where the drive is reading it from. Modern drives have fewer sectors on the inner tracks than on the outer which you could probably account for but then you have the issue of spare sectors. To account for them (and most drives still start off with a few) you'd have to read the relevant table from the engineer section. Not easy and of course the format is not standardised. But if anyone does write such a tool let me know - it would indeed by cool :) Andrue Cope [Bicester, UK]
