How to produce a little 'tick' (sound)

Hello out there,
for a kind of demo application where I simulate a system tick, I would
like to make it audible.
But it needs to be very very decent - just a little 'click' ...
'click' ... 'click', so that the user can relate the system tick to
other actions.

This is quite new territory for me and any help or advice will be
greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Helmut Giese
