static variables are cleaned up far after the VCL has cleaned up behind itself. Since you specified that the form is owned by TForm1 it will destroy your subform when it gets deleted itself. What you are seeing is a double deletion. In this case don't use the auto_ptr and there is no leak. - Clayton
