There's no getting anything pass your Remy :-) yes, that's exactly what I'm trying to do... I suppose the REG_XXX_SZ gave it away. I must be going blind because I was looking for the WideString equivalent of c_str() and I just totally didn't see c_bstr(). Just out of interest, what is the difference between reinterpret_cast<> and dynamic_cast<>? Is it still necessary to cast the value to PVOID when using c_bstr()? Also, do you know any good references for the 'undocumented' native api's - I'm having problems getting the Win2K DDk from MSDN. It seems there is something going on internally, relative to Sun's Java VM - not that I can see how this relates to the DDK an anyway, but I can't download it all the same. Many thanks for the reply, will promise to clean my proverbial glasses.
