If you use FALSE for GetOverlappedResult() then you should be using
WaitForSingleObject() or equivilent function to wait for the operation to
actually finish before then calling GetOverlappedResult() to get the final
result.  Using a waiting function will allow you to use timeouts and such.

Are you using any waiting function before calling GetOverlappedResult()?
When it does fail, what error(s) does it actually report?
