Even if I were to use WAV files (and another part of the thread has given me some pointers on how to record some) I would still need to use tones for several reasons. First, the app is being written for a friend in my department that has been using an old DOS program for years to do this. Unfortunately, the program won't work with Win2K. I would want the transition to this program to be as easy as possible for him, and the old program uses tones through the system speaker. Second, he has over the years gotten quite fast at typing in the codes so the sound cues need to be short -- much shorter than spoken words. Finally, he types in a numeric code as he identifies each item under the scope, and there are over 100 possible codes he routinely uses. > If the wav's aren't too big, I'd add them to a resource file > so that thay're part of the exe (no disk access) and load and > play them as needed. For example: And thanks for the example code. If I end up using WAV's, I'll take your advice about the resource files.
