yup,  that helped.  WS_POPUP gives a window without title bar like I
need for this approach.  (I have succeeded with double buffering to
get where I want meanwhile, so the pressure on this method is gone.)
I may for the sake of exercise try for the missing steps in creating
the overlay.  Remy's tips should cover a lot fo those already.
