To obtain a list in memory use FindFirst/FindNext.

If you want to display a tree on screen you can either combine the above
code with a TTreeList.

Could you elaborate on that, please? If TDirectoryListBox is not showing
subdirectories then something is wrong since that's the whole point of the
component.

If you are after an explorer-style tree then Google for "VCL directory tree
component" without the quotes.
