Does WinXP or Linux or perhaps one of the BSDs provide API calls for NonUniform Memory Access architectures? The idea is to assign threads to particular CPUs and then to allocate memory to a thread from the physical memory that is closest to that CPU. A friend tells me Opteron supports NUMA. I'm wondering if operating systems do.
