Hello, I'm a little confused with Mapi... From what I understand plenty of different mapi32.dll's exist for plenty of different email clients. If someone has a mapi compatible email client installed then you can assume that Mapi32.dll is installed. If no mapi compatible email client is installed then mapi32.dll may not be installed. For this reason there is no point distributing mapi32.dll with your application as without a default email client it wont work anyway.... I'm not sure if everything i've said there is correct, so would love to know where i'm wrong/off track. We use Mapi32.dll to send email from within one of our applications but are not sure how to deal with distributing the .dll etc. Thanks, Vesty. -- .

The OS (almost) always has its own copy of MAPI32 that everyone should be using (but they don't always). If MAPI32 doesn't already exist in the OS's installation, then it is usually best to just prompt the user to install MAPI from the OS Installation CD instead of distributing your own. Ok, whats the easiest way to determine if someone has a given DLL installed? I imagine simply searching for the file isn't it.... I guess I could just determine if its available, then if not prompt them saying 'sorry, can't email until you install mapi' etc. Vesty. > "Adam Versteegen" <no@email.com> wrote in message > news:3e80cfde@newsgroups.borland.com... > > > I'm not sure if everything i've said there is correct, so would love > > to know where i'm wrong/off track. In your case, just load MAPI32 dynamically at runtime via LoadLibrary() and GetProcAddress() and test for any errors that are returned. Gambit
