Overlapped and non-overlapped comms in Threads
#17571

Hi

I am currently developing a program to simultaneously test six lasers.
The plan is that each laser will be tested by a unique thread.
The protocol is master-slave with the test program as master.

Once the test program has sent a message to the laser , its waits for a reply, with no work done in-between. The maximum time for the laser to reply is 800ms.

Would this application benefit from using overlapped communications? Would the other threads be allow to benefit from the pause in communications in terms of cpu cycles?

The communcations are proved by a Comtrol RocketPort Serial Hub Si which provides 8 extra comm ports over an ethernet link.

The data from the lasers to be displayed on a string-grid.

Can someone point me at a good source of information on overlapped communications?

Best Regards and Thanks in Advance
