I want to write an application that records data from another program. For example, the other program has visible captions containing numbers that are visible. I would like my program to be able to read those numbers and store them in a file periodically. What is the best thing to start to look at to be able to do this?

Google the phrase "screen scraper". That should get you started. Danzer
