Hey, When I run Windows (sorry) on my notebook, I can monitor the "Signal" and "Noise" levels (in dBm) of the build-in wireless network card via its "WLAN Card Utility" window. I want to access the same types of data (signal and noise levels on the wireless network adapter) from a C++ application. Can anybody tell me how to obtain these data from a C/C++ application ? Which brand name, model wireless network adapter, (either in PCCard or USB) can provide more accurate signal and noise values? Do you know a 802.11 wireless network adapter with external antenna connection option and desirably with "high" RF output power? Thanks Samishen Doncap

If you can convert a VB6 to BCB code (I can't, Can some one offer a
help) then you may use the following;
Private Sub Timer1_Timer()
Set nicset =
GetObject("winmgmts:{impersonationLevel=impersonate}!root/wmi").InstancesOf("MSNdis_80211_ReceivedSignalStrength")
On Error GoTo no80211Error
For Each nic In nicset
SignalStrengthValue =
Right(nic.Ndis80211ReceivedSignalStrength,
Len(nic.Ndis80211ReceivedSignalStrength) - 1)
If SignalStrengthValue <> "" Then
SendText ("S=NetSignalStrength~" & SignalStrengthValue)
End If
Exit For
Next
nicset = Nothing
Exit Sub
no80211Error:
SendToConsole "No 802.11 network adapters found"
Timer1.Enabled = False
End Sub

Samishen I think I read an article where these values and more are available by querying Windows Management Instrumentation, WMI for short. Have a look at the Microsoft site for more details I also think there was an article in the C++ Builder Developer's Journal in the last 6 months. Not totally sure if this is what you want but it may help. > When I run Windows (sorry) on my notebook, I can monitor the "Signal" and > "Noise" levels (in dBm) of the build-in wireless network card via its > "WLAN Card Utility" window. > > I want to access the same types of data (signal and noise levels on the > wireless network adapter) from a C++ application. > > Can anybody tell me how to obtain these data from a C/C++ application ? > Which brand name, model wireless network adapter, (either in PCCard or > USB) can provide more accurate signal and noise values? > Do you know a 802.11 wireless network adapter with external antenna > connection option and desirably with "high" RF output power?
