Thread "limit" to an application?
#3205

Hi,
is there any limit, technical, philosophical, ..., to how many threads an
application "should/could" be running? Right now I am having quite extensive
RS-232 communication in my app, 3 active ports and counting, and each port
handler is running on its own thread together with the VCL and a "handler"
thread. Good or bad or none of the above?

Thanks

Yes.

That is not very extensive at all.

In other words, you only have 5 threads running? That is next to nothing.
A process can have several *hundred* threads running simultaneously before
you start to have reosurce/memory problems. If you tweak the stack settings
for new threads, and the threads don't allocate very much memory/resources,
you could potentially even run upwards of 1000+ threads, depending on which
OS you are using.
