I am writing an application using C++ Builder 2006 that opens an HTML help file. Everything works fine when running it on a local drive. However, when I run it from a network drive, the help manager opens, but no help is displayed--only "cannot find page" error messages. I suspect this is system security related, where I need to get read access for the application's help file granted. Is there any function(s) contained in Builder 2006 that I can use to do this, or are there any other ideas on what may be causing this issue? Thanks, Paul

Could be you are passing an incorrect path. Did you double check the run-time path to the help fle? You might show a MessageBox with the path before attempting to open the help. >I suspect this is system security related, where I need to get read access for the application's help file granted. If it is in the same directory as the executable, you probably have read access to the other files as well.

This is because MS doesn't allow opening of CHM-files over the network. CHM-files are considered unsafe. Either you will have to change the security settings for the zone (not a good idea), use hlp-files instead, do a local installation of the program, do changes in the registry or copy the CHM-file to the local help directory c:\windows\help (best choice in my opinion). Here is some detailed info: http://helpman.it-authoring.com/viewtopic.php?t=2870 Lars Brange Paul Schwartzkopf wrote: >I am writing an application using C++ Builder 2006 that opens an HTML help file. Hi Bob, >Could be you are passing an incorrect path. >Did you double check the run-time path to the help fle? The path is being dynamically set while the program is loaded. >If it is in the same directory as the executable, you probably >have read access to the other files as well. Even in the same directory, it doesn't work right. What is strange is if I create a topic page (using the MS HTML help kit) using a URL address rather than an existing HTML file, the help manager will download the WEB page correctly when viewing the help file. So I know the help file is being found; it's just not allowing the compiled HTML pages to be displayed.
