Hi, I have developed an application with Borland 6 which so far has mostly been used on Windows XP. I have created a .HLP WinHelp file which so far has been fine. As more users are now getting Vista and WinHelp is not supported on Vista (unless a user specifically downloads it) I now need to change my help file format. I have been searching archives and trying to understand what to do, but now feel more confused than when I started. I am unclear whether .chm files are supported under Vista and whether .chm is the same as HtmlHelp? I cannot afford to buy a help authoring system such as Help and Manual, so I have tried HelpMaker by vizacc. I have successfully created a help file but do not know how to call it from my application and specifically how to invoke it with a specific page showing. This however could be academic if it is not sensible to move to .chm I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks, JB

Please go to http://www.deja.com and search the newsgroup archives. This topic has been discussed in detail many times before. Gambit

I already tried this from reading previous posts, but now I have more information I will try again. Thanks JB

JB, > Can .chm files be created by the HTML Help SDK from Microsoft? > Or do I have to use a third party application? You can use either, but Microsoft's HTML Help Workshop is the only free way to create .chm files (to my knowledge, at least). You can download HTML Help Workshop from here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms669985(VS.85).aspx And for a tutorial on how to build .chm files with HTML Help Workshop, see: http://frogleg.mvps.org/helptechnologies/htmlhelp/hhtutorials.html#char_hhw For information on alternative tools, see: http://hat-matrix.com See the MSHelpWiki for links to lots of additional resources: http://www.mshelpwiki.com/wiki/tiki-index.php?page=HTMLHelp Pete

Even if you aren't using Help & Manual, they have some components that you can use with BCB 6 to implement help via .chm files. I could be wrong but I think these components are available to anyone, not just users of their product (which is certainly excellent, BTW). The component allows you to determine whether HTML help is installed on the computer you're running on, and to use a single call to Application->HelpCommand to reference either Winhelp or HTML help, depending on what is installed.
