Using Window XP Pro SP2 C++ Builder 2007 I have an application that uses WritePrivateProfileString to write the location of a temporary file to an ini file so that it can be located by multiple programs. This code has been in use for 10+ years though various versions of C++ Builder. The call to WritePrivateProfileString is now returning an access denied error. The only thing I have changed on the suspect system is the application of the latest windows updates. The following link addresses this problem. support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q250067 The Microsoft support information is for Windows NT 4.0 and similar. Has anyone encountered similar errors after the application of the most recent windows xp updates? Danzer

You are accessing a .ini file that your program does not have adequate permissions to. > The only thing I have changed on the suspect system is the > application of the latest windows updates. Then the update likely changed the access rights on the file/folder you are trying to access. Gambit
