displaying null value in datetimepicker

How can I get the datetimepicker control to display empty text (in order to 
represent null value)?
I have tried setting the text property but the value property appears to 
override that and default to todays date. Playing with various other of its 
properties has not led anywhere unfortuantely. So my quesiton is - is this 
possible with the datetimepicker?
